M.Sc. in Nanoscience

Nanoscience:

M.Sc. students must complete at least 36 credit hours, within the following guidelines:

• Course-work of 18 credit hours, including two core courses of 6 credit hours (3 credit hours each), three elective courses of 9 credit hours and a Project-Based Learning course of 3 credit hours.
• Thesis-work of 18 credit hours

M.Sc. students have to pass successfully 6 courses with three credit hours each before applying for the Thesis.

Core Courses:

• NAN 501: Fundamentals of nanoscience
• NAN 502: Synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials

Elective Courses:

Students should select 3 courses of 9 credit hours (3 credit hours each). Students can select, with the aid of their academic advisors, elective courses from other science or engineering disciplines.

• NAN 503: Nanocomposite materials
• NAN 504: Colloids and nanoparticles
• NAN 505: Self-assembled nanostructures
• NAN 506: Sensors and actuators
• NAN 507: Nanomaterials for environment applications
• NAN 508: Green synthesis of nanomaterials
• NAN 509: Surfaces and thin films
• NAN 510: Membrane science for filtration and separation applications

Project-Based Learning Courses:

M.Sc. students have to participate in the following teamwork project, which is based on self-learning. Students have to present innovative concepts and competitive solutions.

• NAN 701: Project-based learning in Nanoscience

M.Sc. Thesis:

The M.Sc. candidate should prepare and defend a Thesis based on high-valued research work in one research topic in the field of Nanoscience.

About the Department

Chemistry is the key to social and industrial development. Understanding of nature and synthesis of new materials is essential to enhance the quality of life. Recently Nanoscience as a discipline of Chemistry and its related fields deals with the manipulation of the material at the atomic and molecular scale (nanometers: i.e., one billionth of a meter). New important electrical, optical, and mechanical properties are determined by the assembling of molecules and atoms into larger structures on the nanoscale.

BAS Institute offers the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees with the curriculum in Nanoscience that provides theoretical and experimental skills. Our graduate degrees are uniquely designed to provide students with interdisciplinary curricula that extend beyond the traditional disciplines. The research subjects are supplemented by several courses from different science and engineering disciplines. It aims to prepare researchers and market-ready as well as well-trained professional graduates in different aspects of Nanoscience and its applications within the industry, energy, health, and environmental sustainability.
