Introduction
Why Choose This Course
Our well-established and fully accredited MSc will equip you with exceptional analytical and technical skills across a range of civil engineering disciplines, helping you pursue a highly successful career in the field of civil engineering.
Taught by research-active academics, together with practicing engineers from consultancies and local authorities, this course will provide you with an excellent balance of academic and industry-relevant knowledge.
The MSc is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, and it puts emphasis on sustainability and resilience in civil engineering infrastructure design and assessment.
What You Will Study
Our fully accredited MSc will help you acquire advanced capabilities and in-depth knowledge across a range of civil engineering disciplines, including structural engineering, infrastructure management, geotechnical engineering, and water/environmental engineering. This allows you to tailor your master's according to your aspirations.
This course offers six study streams:
- Bridge engineering
- Infrastructure engineering and management
- Geotechnical engineering
- Structural engineering
- Water/environmental engineering.
If you are an engineer working in the construction industry and you hold a related degree, such as engineering geology or construction management, this course will provide you with the opportunity to expand on your existing knowledge and skills.
It is also designed to update the technical skills of practicing engineers engaged in the planning, design, construction, and operation of civil engineering works.
Distance Learning
Surrey is a pioneer in distance learning-based MSc courses in civil and environmental engineering and has been offering this option long before the Covid-19 pandemic. This flexible option allows you to study for our distinctive, accredited program from anywhere in the world, without the need to relocate or give up your existing job.
As a distance learner, you’ ll study eight modules and complete a dissertation in your chosen subject (like full-time and part-time students), but you can take up to five years to complete your master's. You’ll be able to access all module materials through our virtual learning environment, SurreyLearn, and arrange to take end-of-module exams at a local university.
