General purpose

To train human resources with the capacity to carry out high-level research in the field of health and to transmit their knowledge through teaching activities and dissemination of results, with the interest that their training has a decisive impact on the epidemiological profile of the population.

Specific objectives

  • Develop the ability to apply scientific methodology in the design and conduct of scientific projects.
  • Generate skills to identify, raise, substantiate, intervene and evaluate problems and research needs in the field of health.
  • Provide the theoretical and practical elements necessary for the acquisition of a comprehensive, critical and interdisciplinary vision of the health problems of the population.
  • Develop the capacity for creation and innovation of solutions applicable to the field of health.
  • Promote capacity for resource management and institutional and community linkage.
  • Granting skills for teaching and disseminating research products.

Clinical Research Specialty Area

  • Apply the scientific method in the study and attention of clinical problems.
  • To contribute to solve the needs of knowledge in aspects related to the etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic, therapeutic and prognosis methods of environmental diseases.
  • Use appropriately the computer and bibliographic tools for the analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Effectively apply the tools of oral and written communication in work contexts.
  • Promote the security and guarantee of the rights of the subjects of study.

Area of Specialty in Public Health

  • Apply knowledge and skills developed in different disciplines related to the field of public health for the investigation of health problems of the population and for the evaluation of interventions, policies and programs in the same field.
  • Conduct activities of situational diagnosis of collective health at different levels (community, local, regional, etc.). Prioritize research and attention needs in a comprehensive manner, with a preventive approach of an intersectorial nature.
  • Design activities for disease prevention, promotion and health education in a framework that includes their integration with research and evaluation projects. Formulate, also, intervention plans and programs.
  • Disseminate the knowledge and skills learned through scientific dissemination of research results and teaching activities.
  • Identify, understand and modify the internal and external elements that influence the performance of health systems.

How to enter this postgraduate course?

Entry requirements

  • Original and 2 copies of the bachelor's degree.
  • Official document with minimum bachelor's degree of 80 or equivalent.
  • Proof of the EXANI-III postgraduate entrance examination, with a minimum score of 1000.
  • Official document that endorses 450 TOEFL points.
  • Curriculum vitae, with vouchers.
  • Approve the prerequisite courses with a minimum of 80.
  • Letter of intention expressing the reasons that the student has to study the program.
  • Two letters of academic recommendation.
  • Submit a Research Proposal, endorsed by the tutor, as well as evidence of funding.
  • Personal interview with the Admission Committee.
  • Application for Income
  • Original or certified copy of birth certificate, official identification with photograph, CURP, three child-sized photographs.
  • Copy of the certificate of studies of degree, indicating the total of credits covered.
  • If you have been a CONACyT Scholar, submit a release letter.
  • Foreign students, in addition to the above, must submit: Submit a copy of their immigration permit to study in Mexico (copy of their VISA and "Student Temporary Resident Card). Applicants whose mother tongue is different from Spanish will be subject to an assessment of the proficiency of this language. What do you need to get the degree?

Qualification requirements

To obtain a master's degree, you must:

  • Approve the total credits and other requirements of the curriculum.
  • Proof of understanding a language other than Spanish.
  • To pass a written examination in a written form, through an individual thesis, in which a global, coherent research effort is shown, following a scientific methodology.
  • Submit and pass an examination in oral and public exposition of the thesis work, previously approved in its written phase by the Qualifying Jury.
  • The thesis work must comply with the provisions established in the corresponding curriculum.
  • Comply with the provisions and requirements demanded by the School Services Department of the Universidad de Sonora , for the issuance of a master's degree in health sciences.

Titration options

The master's student must complete his research work and present an oral and written examination of the thesis work, to obtain his degree.

The registration cost of applicants to enter the Universidad de Sonora is announced annually along with the first entry notice.

Registration and tuition fees

Students, when enrolling in any of the graduate programs, must cover the corresponding fees according to the current minimum wage in the city of Hermosillo, as established in the Quotas Regulation.
