goalsThe purpose of the University Master's teachings is for the student to acquire an advanced, specialized and multidisciplinary training in the field of Biotechnology, with both academic orientation, for those who want to continue with their Doctorate studies; as a professional, either through self-employment, with training that allows laying the foundations for entrepreneurship and the development of technology-based companies, either through employed work, in the business or public administration field.
This Master is also aimed at professionals inserted in the labor market who wish to obtain quality training to strengthen their professional career. The Master's Degree offers two orientations within Biotechnology, one in industrial aspects and the other directed to the environmental field.RecipientsPriority will be given to having a Bachelor's or Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or other related bachelor's or degree qualifications or with an equivalent foreign qualification. It is a requirement to prove knowledge of English through official certification equivalent to level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
This certification can be obtained in centers suitable for it. The UCM has a language department where exams are held periodically for different language levels: https: // Complutense languages. en / exams. Why study this master?Biotechnology is a growing sector that, in the global context of an economy increasingly based on R + D + i, has demonstrated its importance and economic impact and is emerging as one of the new sources of economic wealth and employment worldwide, the so-called "bioeconomy".
In Spain this field has undergone a spectacular development in the last ten years, positioning itself as a key strategic sector in the economy, to which many companies from other sectors, considered mature, are also massively incorporated, who decide to make Biotechnology a new line of business or a tool that allows processes to be more efficient and productive. Both the European Framework Program Horizon 2020 and the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2013-2020 include Biotechnology in their lines of action. This growth supposes a demand for adequately trained human capital to work in the different types of industry based, totally or partially, on this technology.
Of the five subsectors in which Biotechnology is currently divided (red, green, white, gray and blue), White Biotechnology, which encompasses all those uses of Biotechnology related to industrial production processes including bioenergy production and revaluation of waste through biorefineries, is an emerging Biotechnology subsector, with important growth prospects, key for the development of the bioeconomy. Likewise, gray biotechnology which includes the processes applied to the environment in its two aspects of pollution prevention by taking advantage of the by-products generated in other industries (biotechnological or not) and of managing the waste originated by bioremediation processes. , is also in full development, as the demand for solutions that guarantee the conservation of environmental heritage is increasing.Admission requirements for mastersNon-enabling university mastersBe in possession of any of the following titles:Spanish official university degree .
