Master of Urban Design (MUD) is intended for individuals who have a strong interest in the practice of shaping the physical form of urban areas and in the design of public places.
Master of Urban Housing aims to provide applied knowledge about the local housing market, policy making, planning, design, and technology aspects of urban housing and project formulation and monitoring, design and technology aspects of urban housing. The program will impart generic knowledge related to urban habitat, knowledge related to housing domain and tools and techniques required to analyze and apply solutions to urban housing-related problems.
Master of Urban Infrastructure (MUI) prepares young professionals for career in one or many of these: (i) preparing infrastructure projects for the cities and their regions, (ii) undertaking or advising on governance of infrastructure projects and facilities in cities and their regions, (iii) preparing projects and overseeing their execution in the areas of urban infrastructure in India as well as other developing countries and (iv) undertaking research on policies and processes of urban infrastructure development. It also exposes the students to environmental, social, political, economic and financial dimensions of urban infrastructure development and ethical dimensions of working as professional.
Master of Urban Transport Systems aims to provide holistic knowledge on planning, technology, design, operations and management of urban transport, besides developing skill sets related to transport system analysis and application of various policy instruments. The program will combine theoretical analysis with practical applications to help students understand how to deal with transport problems in the real world. The focus is to enable students to comprehend the complexities of urban transport and develop their capacities to shape the future of transport in cities.
The new Postgraduate Program in Architectural History and Theory is intended for architects and graduates from other disciplines interested in advanced training in built environment research. Built upon the strong tradition of research at CEPT University, the program provides a thorough methodological grounding and critical communication skills essential for contemporary researchers. Much of the learning will take place using studio-based pedagogy, where students empirically engage with contemporary sites, processes, and representations, and will be supported by a range of theory seminars and methods courses. The Architectural Design specialization within the M.Arch. program at the Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University is an advanced design stream intended for architects to explore, experiment and critically reimagine design as a discipline, empowered by the experience of practice. The specialization has a broader mandate compared to other M.Arch streams and allows students to explore the following themes - new tools and technologies of design, design for social change, reimagining the agency of architectural practitioners, among other things. Students also have opportunities to explore design theory, particularly in the realm of form and aesthetics, ways of making, computational design, history of design and contemporary practice.
Landscape programs at CEPT University are designed to allow a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the profession. It provides professional education to develop landscapes in densely built environments and master plans through intense design education supported with strong engineering foundation. It aspires to bring about notable changes in urban India by creating a pool of high-quality professionals dedicated to the management of human habitats. The program helps students develop skills to address complex problems like enhancing long-term efficiency of urban services, improving day-to-day functioning of cities and finding ways to improve financing of urban systems. This course invites students to engage with cities in a multidisciplinary way to propose local solutions to global issues like climate change and migration and to protect heritage values. It offers a multidisciplinary approach to urban design and conservation that critically engages with ideas of sustainability and resilience, urban and regional, and development and community.
The program fosters empathetic and reflective designers capable of engaging with theory and public policy. It develops the ability to deal with complexity and navigate the layers of physical and non- physical contexts that define public spaces. The aim is to use this holistic understanding of the design of dynamic, inclusive and sensitive interventions.
The School of Historical Studies (SHS) is a dynamic community of faculty members and graduate students, engaged in a systematic and rigorous inquiry into some of the fundamental questions that concern historical experiences within and beyond Asia. The thrust areas of the School, Asian Interconnections, Anthropology, East Asian History, Cultural History, Oral History, Economic History and History of Science - are built on the foundation of ancient Nalanda. The new Nalanda University chiefly plays a role as a conduit of India's vibrant intellectual, religious and economic linkages with the world, and the aim of the School Of Historical Studies is to open new frontiers of knowledge on Asian and non-Asian cultural, historical and philosophical contexts. Faculty members combine a rich variety of methodologies and disciplinary backgrounds to bear on their research and teaching of history including anthropology, sociology, archaeology, religious studies, philosophy, economic history, political science, philology, visual studies, and art history. Students in the School develop critical understandings of cultural-political histories, economic histories, intellectual histories, oral and visual histories, history of science, and religious histories.
