Sustainability has become a critical issue for businesses because advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence pose a significant threat to the environment. Companies need to prioritize sustainability initiatives to reduce their carbon footprints and maintain a long-term brand reputation. Big companies, including Microsoft and Amazon, are taking the initiative to address environmental concerns; for example, Microsoft has committed to going carbon negative by 2030. A couple of years down the line, these companies would need experts to align their business goals with environmental goals. They will need skilled practitioners deft in sustainable value chain management, and sustainable business management, among others. It is high time to tap the opportunities by pursuing professional studies in this domain. -

The Master of Science in Sustainable Management and Technology program is offered by Enterprise for Society (E4S) on behalf of its three partner institutions, the University of Lausanne (UNIL), the Institute for Management Development (IMD), and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The program will equip the next generation of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs with the knowledge and skills necessary to co-create a more resilient, environmentally responsible, and inclusive economy. Participants in the program will learn how to lead teams across multiple disciplines and solve complex problems in corporations, start-ups, and NGOs. Graduates will be ready to integrate sustainability in the core of their activity – whether in the corporate or entrepreneurship arena - and conduct business in service of their organizations, the environment, and society in general. Program overview The program aims at building competences along three dimensions: technology and innovation, economics and management, and sustainability. In comparison with existing programs organized around management, technology, and/or sustainability around the world, the SMT Master program is unique in focusing on all three dimensions simultaneously and in a balanced manner. While it builds on the theory and real-life applications, the program is committed to enhancing personal and social skills by encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork on practical projects and by systematically mixing students of different profiles. The formal coursework and team projects will be completed and enriched by lectures and workshops with experts from the industry. -
