Introduction
Molecular Biotechnology is a graduate (second-cycle) program of studies that leads to a Magister degree (Polish equivalent of a Master's degree). It is a two-year-long, full-time program conducted entirely in English. Admissions Numbers are 30 persons per year.
You need to obtain at least 121 ECTS points in order to complete the studies. You will be awarded the title of Magister after passing all exams and completing a diploma dissertation.
The study program is made up of compulsory courses and elective courses. Compulsory courses allow broadening your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the following areas: molecular biotechnology, genetic engineering, biochemistry, cell biology, medical biotechnology, plant biotechnology, bioinformatics, the application of biotechnology in environmental protection, and protection of industrial property and copyright.
Elective courses are related to the use of various types of viral vectors, the production of monoclonal antibodies, methods of biofuel production, industrial microbiology, stem cells, and cell engineering.
Why Molecular Biotechnology in Krakow?
You will:
- Broaden and increase your knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and selected fields of biotechnology;
- Achieve theoretical basis and practical skills of using advanced research methods and techniques of cell biology, biochemistry, immunochemistry, microbiology, and genetic engineering, which are applicable in biotechnology; learning possibilities, and limitations of particular methods;
- Learn how to proficiently use academic literature on biotechnology and related disciplines;
- Master how to fluently use the specialist language of biology and biotechnology in academic conversations and in writing;
- Get ready to enter a doctoral school or take up professional work at research and diagnostic institutions and in biotechnological companies.
About the School

Career Opportunities
As a graduate of the Molecular Biotechnology program, you will have good knowledge of the basis of sciences and in-depth knowledge regarding biological processes occurring on a molecular level. This knowledge enables describing, explaining, and exploiting various biological processes. You will be prepared to work in the area of:
- Directed genetic modification of microorganisms and cells of higher organisms;
- Directing of processes of biosynthesis and biotransformation;
- Analysis of intracellular processes;
- Isolation and purification of bioproducts;
- Medical diagnostic.
With the title of Magister you will have a chance to work in more independent and creative positions in research and development institutions, and – depending on a chosen specialization – in laboratories focused on medicine, pharmacology, environmental protection, and agriculture.
