Protestant Theological Institute of Cluj-Napoca

Introduction

The Protestant Theological Institute of Cluj-Napoca (PTI) is an independent university accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Education. Its main aim is to train Reformed, Lutheran and Unitarian ministers. The Institute wishes to set theology into the service of the church communities, living in a multicultural and multiconfessional society. This mission is carried out in an open irenic fashion while implementing high academic standards. The PTI intends to create a strong theological dialogue with other academic fields relevant to the Christian message and tradition.

The financial background for the institution's functioning was traditionally provided by the congregations of the three churches named above. The University is listed by the Hungarian government as one of the institutions of national importance and accorded normative financial support. The Institute also receives partial support from the Romanian Ministry of Cults. A successful application exam conditions entrance for earning a degree at the Protestant Theological Institute. Studying at the Institute is free; students pay no tuition fees. The governing committees of the churches determine the number of new students. About 25 BA students and 20 MA students graduate each year.
