Introduction
The Master's Degree Course in Management and Monitoring of Sustainable Tourism (MMTS) aims to train managers specializing in the monitoring, acquisition, processing, and interpretation of tourism data and processes with a view to sustainable development. Through a multidisciplinary training course in the economic, managerial, anthropological, environmental, IT-statistical and legal fields, the outgoing professional figures will be able to carry out consultancy and support activities for decision-making processes, in the public and private sectors, and to assume roles management and management in companies.
Duration and activity
The Master's Degree Course in Management and Monitoring of Sustainable Tourism (STMM) lasts two years and is based in the Department of Economics and Business of the Faculty of Economic, Legal and Political Sciences (SEGP) of the University of Cagliari (UniCA). The course offers multidisciplinary training in the economic, managerial, anthropological, environmental, IT-statistical and legal fields, for a total of 120 credits, divided into 12 compulsory exams (84 credits). To these are added activities chosen by the student, internships and the final exam (36 credits).
The course also allows the development of language skills through specific teaching of English, in the first year, and the provision of the entire training offer (four courses) in English during the second year. Furthermore, starting from the Academic Year 2020-2021, an international course is active that allows you to achieve the double degree in agreement with the Belarus State Economic University (BSEU) in the city of Minsk, capital of Belarus. . SEGP-UniCA students in the first year, second semester, will attend BSEU courses in Minsk, BSEU students will attend SEGP-UniCA courses in the second year.
Goals and career opportunities
The purpose of the course is to train a manager specialized in the monitoring, acquisition, processing and interpretation of tourism data who offers advice and support to decision-making processes, in the private and public sphere, with a view to sustainable development, but also able to carry out managerial and management activities within companies.
The prevalent outgoing professional figures are the following:
- Manager specialized in the monitoring, acquisition, processing and interpretation of tourism data who offers advice on the formulation of decision-making processes to both private and public organizations;
- Sustainable tourism specialist manager able to carry out managerial and management activities in private companies, not excluding the competence for their creation;
- Specialist manager of sustainable economic development able to participate in the design choices of economic systems and in the implementation of policies for the construction of the tourist offer as a whole, that is, capable of grasping challenges and trends in different contexts and addressing territorial weaknesses under the combination of competitiveness and sustainability.
Organization and method
The Master's Degree Course in STMM programs its teaching activities on the basis of a calendar available at the beginning of the academic year that allows the student to know the times and classrooms of the lessons, as well as the dates of the exams, well in advance.
The training course includes lectures, exercises, group activities and seminars, in addition to individual study. Attendance of the lessons is not compulsory. Final exams are held in written or oral form.
Frontal tutoring and teaching support services are provided as well as an incoming, ongoing and outgoing orientation service, which in addition to contributing to making the study path more profitable, provides students with knowledge of the various opportunities offered by the Course.
Teachers in charge of the Erasmus program and internships help students make it easier for them to access these important initiatives.
Curricular requirements
To be admitted to the Master's Degree Course in Management and Monitoring of Sustainable Tourism, it is necessary to have a three-year degree or university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad, recognized as equivalent, as well as curricular requirements and a adequate personal preparation.
The curricular requirements are:
- Degree in classes L-18 Economics and Business Management Sciences and L-33 Economic Sciences pursuant to DM 270/04, or L-17 and L-28 pursuant to DM 509/99.
- Or a degree in classes other than the previous ones, but with the achievement of an adequate number of credits in the following groups of scientific disciplinary sectors:
- 12 CFU in the field of business sciences (Scientific Disciplinary Sectors SECS-P / 07, SECS-P / 08, SECSP / 10);
- 12 CFU in economic sciences (Scientific Disciplinary Sectors SECS-P / 01, SECS-P / 02, SECSP / 06);
- 9 CFU in the field of mathematical-statistical sciences (Scientific Disciplinary Sectors MAT / 05, MAT / 06, SECS-S / 01, SECS-S / 03, SECS-S / 05).
The curricular requirements also require skills in English at level B1, acquired in university curricular exams of a corresponding level, or certified by Italian university language centers or through recognized international certifications.
