Our research-driven MSc in Supply Chain Management will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become an expert in a discipline that is essential to business success when operating in today’s local, national and global markets.
The program in Groningen is unique in that it tackles the full range of the supply chains within all types of organizations (production, distribution, and services). You will gain the necessary managerial and analytical skills to focus on the design, integration, and coordination of supply chains at multiple levels, bringing innovative and dynamic solutions to this fast-paced business environment. The program also provides access to numerous professionals from different sectors complementing current and future perspectives taught in courses. We cooperate with companies on guest lectures, company visits, internships, career events, case studies, and thesis assignments.
Through the selection of elective courses, you can focus on supply chains in specific contexts, for example in the energy, healthcare, or process industry. The program further offers the opportunity to focus on the Energy Focus area. Our education is strongly rooted in business practice and society. Also right from the start of your degree program attention is paid to academic research and preprofessional development. Since an analytical and critical mind and problem-solving capabilities are important qualities in any career our students aspire.
In collaboration with external partners, we conduct research projects on (e-)logistics, healthcare, and service supply chains, resilience, port logistics, transportation, energy transition, sustainable energy supply, city-logistics, and last-mile deliveries, and sustainable logistics. Example projects can be seen at our research group Centre for Operational Excellence (COPE).
Curriculum
You will take the core courses Strategic Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain Network Design, Logistics & Supply Chain Operations, and Process Improvement & Change. The first three courses address supply chain issues on a strategic, tactical, and operational level, whereas Process Improvement and Change focus on the implementation of improvements.
All courses have a strong academic profile, with research embedded in teaching. At the same time, the focus is on developments in practice: via guest speakers, case studies, projects with real-life data, company visits, consultancy projects for companies, and large R&D projects of the academic researchers of the faculty.
Furthermore, academic skills and professional skills are incorporated into the courses, skills that can be exploited in your future job. You conclude your master's with a thesis, possibly at or for a company, or related to a real-life company theme.
